RAPID CITY – Brandon Valley beat Harrisburg, 53-40, and Sioux Falls O’Gorman defeated defending-champion Yankton, 43-42, on a controversial buzzer-beater in the semifinals of the Class AA State Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center’s Barnett Arena.
The third-seeded Knights (18-5) and fourth-seeded Lynx (18-5) take the court in the final tonight at 8:30.
The No. 2 Bucks (18-5) and No. 8 Tigers (13-10) play for third place at 4:15 p.m.
• Brandon Valley 53, Harrisburg 40
The Lynx trailed by as many as nine points in the first quarter but rallied to pick up the victory.
The Tigers led 18-10 after 8 minutes, while Brandon Valley was up 29-28 at the break and 37-35 through three.
Evan Talcott scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Carter Olthoff added 12 points, Jackson Hilton nine and Nate Keegan seven.
Harrisburg got eight points from Nick Hoyt and Conner Geddes. Blair Slaughter added seven and Brayden Phipps six.
• S.F. O’Gorman 43, Yankton 42
Luke Ronsiek made a runner in the lane as time expired to lift the Knights.
Video replay and still photos showed the ball was clearly in his hand as time expired, but officials ruled the shot good in live action.
High school does not have a replay system.
The game was a battle throughout.
Yankton led 6-3 after a quarter, 19-16 at halftime and 30-29 through three.
It was a back-and-forth final period.
OG moved ahead 41-40 on Akoi Akoi’s bucket with 23 seconds remaining.
Matthew Mors was fouled driving to the bucket on Yankton’s next possession and made both freebies, leaving the score at 42-41 in favor of the Bucks with 10 seconds to play.
And then came the big finish.
Ronsiek finished with 12 points and Jack Cartwright 10.
Mors, a sophomore and the Gatorade South Dakota Boys’ High School Basketball Player of the Year, had 26 points and eight boards.
• S.F. Lincoln 74, R.C. Stevens 67
The top-seeded Patriots bounced back with a win over the Raiders.
Lincoln led 15-13 after a quarter and Stevens was up 33-32 at halftime. The Patriots grabbed a 51-46 advantage heading to the fourth.
Nate Brecht had 21 points, Jared Jaros 18 and Maxwell Burchill 15. Zach Hanson grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Raiders’ Dylan Pourier scored a game-high 26 points. Daniel Vigoren contributed 13 markers, Mason Steele 11 and reserve Blake Weaver 10.
• S.F. Roosevelt 68, Huron 52
The Rough Riders led 16-12 after a quarter, 35-28 at halftime and 48-38 through three.
Tyler Feldkamp finished with 17 points, Carson Devericks 15, Tucker West 13 and reserve Adam Kusler 11. Devericks grabbed seven boards.
The Tigers’ Kobe Busch posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards. Nathan Boehrns tallied 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting off the bench, while Teegan Evers finished with 11 points.
