Bombers Maroon takes two from S.F. West

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Maroon swept Sioux Falls West 13U Navy, 15-1 and 11-7, in a youth baseball doubleheader Tuesday at Mickelson Field.

Both games ended after five innings.

Brookings (17-5), which has won six consecutive games, heads to Sioux Falls to face the Cyclones 13U team in a twinbill today at 6 p.m. at Harmodon.

Game 1

• Brookings 15,

Sioux Falls West 1 (5 inn.)

The Bombers Maroon took control early with 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Sam Hardin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Cole McKeown was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

Jake Ammann, who scored twice, and Joshua Devine contributed one hit and two RBIs apiece.

Caden Krogman singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times.

Jack Even, who doubled and scored two runs, notched an RBI. Zachary Moe had the team’s other hit, while Talon Richter scored twice.

Richter worked four innings to pick up the pitching win, allowing one run on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Krogman tossed a scoreless fifth, tallying two strikeouts.

Game 2

Sioux Falls West 7 (5 inn.)

The Bombers Maroon scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 9-7 advantage en route to the win.

Brookings led 4-1 after an inning, but Sioux Falls West scored six times in the top of the second.

Even finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Richter was 1-for-1 with two walks, two RBIs and three runs.

Logan Bortnem and Hardin added two hits and two runs apiece. Ashton Witte doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Brock Longville, who singled, and Trey Svennes both contributed one RBI. Krogman singled and scored twice.

Devine picked up the win after giving up seven runs – one earned – on five hits and two walks with a strikeout in two innings. Hardin earned the save, surrendering just three hits while striking out a pair of batters over the final three frames.
