BROOKINGS – Two Brookings baseball players were selected for All-State recognition as announced on Wednesday by the South Dakota High School Baseball Association.
Senior Jake Ammann was named to the first team, while junior Nathan Lease garnered second-team recognition.
Both were recognized as pitchers. Ammann finished the year with a record of 5-2 over 42 innings pitches. He posted an ERA of 1.33 while recording 58 strikeouts.
Lease was 5-0 with two saves in 40 total innings of work. He had 36 strikeouts.
All-Region Team
Ammann and Lease, along with seniors Charlie Holm, Sam Hardin, and Lincoln Hardin were all named to the All-Region team.
Lincoln Hardin posted an average of .377 with four doubles and 11 RBI as an outfielder. Sam Hardin had a .375 average with three doubles and 12 runs batted in while functioning as the Bobcats’ primary catcher for nearly all games. Holm finished the year with a .333 batting average as Brookings’ third baseman.
Brookings finished the regular season with a record of 17-7 and earned the number three seed and the right to host a regional tournament. The Bobcats defeated Huron in the the opening game of the regional but lost to Sioux Falls Washington, 6-4, in the game to qualify for the state tournament.
The Class A state tournament is Saturday at Sioux Falls Stadium. Washington, along with Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Sioux Falls Lincoln, and Mitchell are the four teams vying for a state title.
