I am pleased that Bonny Specker is seeking reelection for a three-year term on the Brookings City Council. I have known Bonny since she joined the SDSU research faculty over 25 years ago. During that time, I came to recognize her national and international lauded work as a researcher and her sincere commitment to the quality of life in our community. Her service to the youth of Brookings is evidenced by her past unselfish volunteer work as a citizen leader for the Boys and Girls Club, CASA and Brookings Rangers Girl Hockey.
Bonny shared her expertise in epidemiology with our community during the COVID 19 pandemic period. Her weekly statistical compilation of national, state and local COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths was vital in assisting Brookings Health System, Brookings School District, SDSU and Brookings City Council make informed decisions to minimize the spread of the virus in our community. During her time on the City Council, she has used that same fact-based approach in contributing to Council decision making.
Bonny has shown that she does embrace the values of Brookings as well as reliance on facts as opposed to misinformation in her City Council service to our community. I urge your vote in favor of Bonny Specker for re-election to the Brookings City Council on April 8. She will prove once again to be worthy of your support.
