BROOKINGS – The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team closed out the regular season with a 10-0 win over Sioux Center on Friday night.
The Rangers finished the season with a record of 14-6-2. Brookings scored two goals in the first period and then scored four goals in each of the final two periods.
Talon Hyde scored both goals for the Rangers in the opening period. The first one came with 10:45 left in the period and he was assisted by Nolan Krogman and Jay Harris. He would then score again 16 seconds later and this time was assisted by Krogman and Parker Nielsen.
Tre Christopherson put the Rangers up 3-0 33 seconds into the second. He was assisted by Hyde and Harris. Jackson Heller scored with 8:29 to go in the period and he was assisted by Cooper Schneider and Caleb Johnson. Cade Zweber made it 5-0 with 6:18 to go in the second and he was assisted by Jason Ready and Atwood Ahmann. Mason Diers scored the fina goal of the period with 5:27 to go and was assisted by Jack Lovseth and Carson Kludt.
Zweber opened the scoring in the third with 14:28 to go and he was assisted by Nielsen and Rhys Heiberger. Heller made it 8-0 with just over 12 minutes to play and he was assisted by Schneider. Ready scored with 9:25 to go and he was assisted by Mauer Bartley and Krogman. Tre Christopherson scored the final goal of the game with 1:19 to play and was assisted by Krogman and Harris.
Brookings outshot Sioux Center 48-6. Neil Trygstad had the shutout between the pipes.
The Rangers will play in the State Tournament in Sioux Falls March 12-14. Brookings will take on Sioux Falls West on March 12 at 5 p.m.
