Sioux Valley’s Guthmiller wins state title, Brookings’ Sackreiter comes in 2nd

SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Valley’s Summer Guthmiller repeated as a state champion at the Girls State Wrestling Meet over the weekend at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Guthmiller won the title in the 155-pound weight class. She pinned all four of her opponents en route to the championship.

Guthmiller pinned Canton’s Alyssa McCracken in 1:23 in the first round and then she pinned Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Amelia Hedrixson in the quarterfinals. Guthmiller pinned Hot Springs’ Katie Snyder in 1:40 in the semifinals and then pinned Rapid City Stevens’ Bella Morteo in the championship match. She finished the season 42-0.

Brookings’ Kendis Sackreiter finished in second in the 235-pound weight class. Sackreiter pinned McLaughlin’s Sapphire White Mountain in 1:30 in the first round. She then pinned Rapid City Stevens’ Aubree Walker in 46 seconds in the quarterfinals and then Todd County/White River’s Unique Clairmont in 3:29 in the semifinals. In the championship match Sackreiter was pinned by Watertown’s Eden Hach in 5:13. Sackreiter finished the year with a record of 27-4.

Kami Erickson came in fifth place for the Bobcats in the 125-pound weight class. Erickson pinned Brandon Valley’s Cordelia Hofer in 50 seconds in the first round. She then lost a 6-2 decision to Sioux Falls Washington’s Olivia Kolbrek in the quarterfinals but bounced back with a 2-1 decision victory over Lemmon’s Darla Barnes in her first consolation match. Erickson then won a 10-9 decision over Tea Area’s Emmery Voelker and then lost a 10-7 sudden victory to Harding County’s Kanyn Padden in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match Erickson won a 6-1 decision over Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Harper Kracht.

Bailey TeKrony came in seventh place in the 110-pound weight class. TeKrony won a 3-0 decision over Payton Raastad in the first round before losing a 10-3 decision to Sturgis Brown’s Annalee Pierson in the quarterfinals. She would then pin Clark/Willow Lake’s Hadley Gjerde in  52 seconds in her first consolation match but then lost a 13-2 major decision to Rapid City Central’s Mataya Jacobs. TeKrony would then win a 1-0 decision over Chalie Sah in the seventh-place match.

Sioux Valley’s Skye Guthmiller was the other Cossack girl to place and she came in eighth place in the 140-pound weight class. Guthmiller pinned Macy Johnke in 34 seconds in the first round but was then pinned by Watertown’s Brooke Grajcyzk in 4:32 in the quarterfinals. She bounced back with a 7-2 decision over Sturgis Brown’s Anya Juelfs in her first consolation match but was then pinned by Lennox’s Rosearia Rohrer in the next match. In the seventh-place match Guthmiller was pinned in 1:57 by Canton’s Kenzie King.
