Bobcats fall to Cavaliers in Brookings

BROOKINGS – The Brookings girls’ basketball team lost 62-37 to Sioux Falls Jefferson on Friday night at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.

Jefferson scored 45 points in the first half and cruised to the victory.

The Cavaliers led 6-4 just under three minutes into the game. They then went on a 16-0 run to go up 20-4 with 2:48 left in the opening quarter. Brookings outscored Jefferson 9-5 the rest of the quarter and the Cavs led 25-13 heading into the second.

Jefferson opened the second with a 10-0 run. The Cavs in total outscored the Bobcats 20-5 in the quarter and led 45-18 at halftime. Jefferson then stretched the lead to 58-26 by the end of quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Cavs 11-4 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late.

Brookings shot 30.6% from the field and was 2-of-5 from three. The Bobcats were led by Julia Burns who had 12 points. Sloan McLagan had six points.

Jefferson shot 42.6% from the field and was 5-of-17 from deep. Brinley Altenburg had 17 points to lead the Cavs. Abby Horner had nine points and Macy Bryant had 10 points.

The Bobcats had 22 turnovers and the Cavaliers had 10. Jefferson had a 34-28 advantage in rebounds. The Cavs were 11-of-14 at the free throw line and Brookings 5-of-13.

Brookings dropped to 2-13 on the year. The Bobcats play at Pierre on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
