No. 1 Patriots pull away from Bobcats

BROOKINGS – The Brookings boys’ basketball team hung around with the No. 1 team in Class AA for a quarter on Friday night but Sioux Falls Lincoln then pulled away and beat the Bobcats 68-32 at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.

The Bobcats trailed 10-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Patriots then went on a 13-0 run to start the second. The lead then grew to 34-14 with 52 seconds left in the half and Lincoln took a 36-14 lead into halftime.

Brookings scored the first five points in the second half, but the Patriots then went on a 12-2 run to make it 48-21 with 3:30 to go in the third. Lincoln led 55-25 at the end of the third quarter. The Patriots then outscored the Bobcats 13-7 in the final quarter.

The Bobcats shot 29.3% from the field and was 3-of-17 from three. Brookings was led by Bergan Tetzlaff who had 12 points and six rebounds. Noah Lease had eight points.

The Patriots shot 45.5% from the field and were 9-of-28 from beyond the arc. Sam Ericsson had 20 points to lead Lincoln. Brody Schafer and Brody Nour each had 12 points. Owen Duffy had eight points and six rebounds. Samuel DeGroot had a game-high 13 rebounds.

Brookings dropped to 1-12 on the season. The Bobcats will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
