WATERTOWN The Brookings Bandits were defeated 7-3 by the Watertown Arrows on Wednesday night.
This was supposed to be the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday, but it was postponed due to weather. Brookings is now 16-20 and plays a doubleheader in Fargo, N.D., on Thursday starting at 4 p.m.
Watertown scored six runs in the first two innings and did not look back.
The Arrows scored four runs in the first. Hayden Ries reached on an error to begin the inning and then Mitch Olson followed with a single. Ries scored on an Nathan Briggs single and then Olson came home on a Kaden Rylance single to make it 2-0. Jackson McClemans walked with the bases loaded and Rylance scored on a Carter Buisker sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
Olson and Markus Pitkin each singled with one out and then Briggs was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Olson and Pitkin then scored on an error to make it 6-0.
Brookings scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth. Cooper Schneider singled and Tyson Antonene and Maxten Jensen walked to load up the bases with one out. Schneider scored on a Jay Harris single and then Kysin Reuer was walked with the bases loaded to make it 6-2. Jensen scored on a sacrifice fly from Bauer to make it 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Watertown scored an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. Treyton Himmerich was hit by a pitch with two outs and then scored on a Ries single to make it 7-3. Brookings was unable to score the rest of the way.
Brookings had four hits in the loss. Jon Kahler was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Harris was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Schneider and Winston Plummer were each 1-for-4.
Talon Hyde pitched all six innings for the Bandits. He gave up seven runs, four earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
