Brookings Bombers White victorious in doubleheader at Bob Shelden

BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team swept a doubleheader at Bob Shelden Field against Brandon Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bombers dominated both games, winning 12-4 and 19-9. It was the first two games of the season for Brookings and the Bombers will play a doubleheader at Sioux Falls East on Wednesday night.

Game 1: Brookings 12, Brandon Valley 4

Brookings scored seven runs in the first three innings and that led the Bombers to victory in game one.

The Bombers scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Hayden Smidt walked with one out and then stole second. He then scored on a single from Beau Thompson. Delton Brownell was hit by a pitch and Derek Jordan walked to load the bases. Kuddyer Baugher and Lucas Kahler then each drew a walk to score two more runs.

Brandon Valley scored a run on an error in the top of the third.

Brookings answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Hudson Vincent hit a triple to lead off the inning and then Lincoln Damm drew a one-out walk. Vincent scored on an error and Damm came home on a single from Brownell. On that same play Thompson scored on an error to make it 6-1. Brownell then came home on a passed ball to push the lead to 7-1 heading into the fourth.

The Lynx would score two runs in the top of the fourth. The first run came home on an error and then another run scored on a ground out to cut the lead to 7-3.

A single from Vincent and then three-straight walks led to a run being scored. Damm scored on a sacrifice fly from Jordan to make it 9-3.

The Bombers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Smidt walked to lead off the inning and then scored on a wild pitch. Thompson walked as well and he later scored on a Jordan triple. Baugher then hit Jordan home with a single to make it 12-3.

Brandon Valley scored another run on an error in the top of the seventh to make the final 12-4.

Brookings had six hits in the win. Thompson was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Baugher was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Jordan was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Brownell was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Vincent was 2-for-4.

Griffin Streich pitched the first nine innings for the Bombers. He gave up three unearned runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Warner Carroll pitched the final inning and gave up one unearned run and one hit with two walks and no strikeouts.

Game 2: Brookings 19, Brandon Valley 9 (5 inn.)

Brookings fell behind 7-0 in the first two and a half innings but then outscored Brandon Valley 19-2 the rest of the way.

The Lynx scored two runs on two RBI singles in the top of the first. A two-run single in the top of the second made it 4-0. Brandon Valley then scored runs on an error and two more RBI singles to make it 7-0.

Brookings got four runs back in the bottom of the second. Vincent reached on an error and Streich singled to put two runners on with one out. Each runner would then score on an error to make it 7-2. Jaxson Neuharth and Thompson then hit back-to-back RBI singles to cut the lead to 7-4.

The Bombers would then gain the lead in the third. Kahler hit a triple to lead off the bottom of the inning and then scored on a Vincent single. Vincent would score on a balk by the pitcher and Landon Mosley scored on an error to tie the game. Carroll scored on a passed ball and then Thompson stole home later in the inning to make it 9-7 heading into the fourth.

Brookings added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth. Baugher and Kahler each walked to begin the inning. They then both scored on a Streich single to make it 11-7. Streich would later score on a wild pitch, making it 12-7.

Brandon Valley scored a run on a passed ball in the top of the fifth but that would be the final run of the game for the Lynx as Brookings scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jordan hit an RBI single and then Baugher hit him home with a triple. Kahler then hit an RBI single and Vincent followed with an RBI double to make it 16-9. Vincent then scored and Streich stole home. The Bombers would score one more run to end the game.

Brookings had 12 hits in the win. Streich was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Vincent was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jordan was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Kahler was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Thompson, Baugher and Neuharth were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Baugher pitched a complete game for the Bombers. He gave up nine runs, three earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
