A city-sponsored open house celebrating National Public Works Week on Wednesday at 125 Seventh Ave. drew in folks of all ages and the hulking equipment was especially popular with youngsters.
From loaders to road graders to dump trucks and more, and with popcorn and root beer floats in hand, they clambered up and down the machinery that helps to keep Brookings in tip-top shape.
The Brookings Public Works Department is comprised of the following divisions:
- Airport
- Engineering
- Solid Waste/Landfill
- Street
According to information from the city, the divisions “focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are vital to maintaining our sustainable and resilient community and to the public health, high quality of life, and well-being of Brookings residents and visitors.”
