Augustana celebrating graduating artists with senior show ‘Echoes of Experience

SIOUX FALLS Beginning last week, the Augustana University Art Department is celebrating the hard work of its graduating seniors with its annual Senior Show Echoes of Experience that will showcase their capstone projects.

The exhibit will run through May 24.

“I found a passion through ceramics in high school and wanted to continue to explore its capabilities. I make art because it gives me a sense of peace. Being within a community of artists who have a similar drive to me pushes me to be a better artist,” said Mattie Tschetter ’25.

This year, the Augustana Senior Show will be displayed across two different venues: the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana University and Visual Arts Center at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.

The artistic and academic paths of these 16 seniors have been as diverse as their personalities. Within this group, you will find athletes, musicians, scientists and social scientists; you will find students who traveled halfway around the world to arrive at Augustana, and others who stayed close to home in order to travel far; you will find students who tackled multiple majors in this liberal-arts setting, and others who embraced the 78 credit BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree, noted Lindsay Twa, who is a professor of at and director of the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery. Among other goals, they have aspirations of becoming professional artists, teachers, designers, arts advocates and museum professionals. Regardless of their vocations, we feel that the future of the visual arts is in good hands.

“My involvement in the Augustana Art Department has instilled in me a profound sense of belonging unlike anything I’ve experienced outside of my immediate family,” said Quinn Ward ’25.
