High school girls wrestling: Cossacks go 2-1 at home quadrangular

VOLGA The Sioux Valley girls wrestling team went 2-1 on Tuesday night in a home girls only quadrangular. The Cossacks beat Canistota and Webster Area and then fell to Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda.

Sioux Valley 30, Canistota 18

Trinity Kurtenbach won the lone match that counted for the Cossacks against the Hawks. She took Alyvia Hjermstad in the 107-pound weight class as she pinned Hjermstad in 1:59. Sioux Valleys Ava VandeWeerd was pinned in 58 seconds by Lily Montgomery.

Anna Field, Skyler Virhow, Vana Guthmiller and Wummer Guthmiller all won by forfeit. In an extra match Sioux Valleys Citabria Manzanares pinned Lola Conn in 1:21.

Sioux Valley 36, Webster Area 12

The Cossacks won the only match that saw two wrestlers face each other for points. Sioux Valleys Virhow pinned Jocelyn Rumpca at 120.

Vana Guthmiller, Summer Guthmiller, Field, VandeWeerd and Manzanares all won via forfeit. Summer Guthmiller won a 16-0 technical fall over Brooke Grajcyzk in an extra match. In another extra match Websters Katie Snyder pinned VandeWeerd.

Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda 30, Sioux Valley 24

The two teams split the four matches that had wrestlers up against each other. Virhow pinned Aubrey Jensen at 120 and Summer Guthmiller pinned Kayla Shoolmeester at 132. Vana Guthmiller was pinned at 126 and VandeWeerd was pinned at 165. Manzanares and Field each won by forfeit.
