The 2023-24 high school basketball season has concluded, which means it’s time to announce this year’s All-Register girls basketball team.

The team is made up of area schools including Brookings, Sioux Valley, Deubrook Area, Elkton-Lake Benton, Arlington, Iroquois/Lake Preston, Estelline-Hendricks, Colman-Egan, Flandreau, and Oldham-Ramona Rutland.

This year’s First Team features Flandreau’s Claire Sheppard, Lizzie Pavlis and Lily Klein, Colman-Egan’s Brynlee Landis and Arlington’s Addalyn Steffensen and Jaelyn Huntimer.

This year’s Second Team features Sioux Valley’s Isabelle Bloker and Kailey Cradduck, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland’s Julia Trygstad, Arlington’s Harley Johnson, Elkton-Lake Benton’s Kylie Ramlo and Colman-Egan’s Kaylee Voelker.

First Team
Claire Shepard, Flandreau – Senior, Guard/Forward
Sheppard was the All-Register Player of the Year for the third time in her career averaging 15 points, five assists and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. Sheppard also makes the All-Register team for the fourth time in her career (2021, 2022, 2023).

Sheppard is a four-time All-State selection, making the first team in 2023 and 2024, the second team in 2022 and the third team in 2021. She is also the Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee for South Dakota, and committed to play basketball at South Dakota State next winter.

“Claire’s passion for the game is unmatched,” Flandreau head coach Megan Severtson said. “The number of hours she has committed to the sport goes far beyond the typical high school student. She has been one of the leaders of Flandreau girls basketball since her freshman year and her decorated career will always be remembered. She made the players around her better and moving her to the point guard position this year allowed her to create for others – which is her favorite part of the game.”

A four-time All-Conference selection in the Big East and Lake Central Conferences, Sheppard led the Fliers to a school-best 27-1 record and fifth place at the Class A State Tournament.

Lizzie Pavlis, Flandreau – Senior, Forward
Pavlis averaged 13.2 points, 3.1 assists and 6.5 rebounds for the Fliers this season. This is her second selection to the All-Register team after making the team in 2023.

Pavlis was selected to the Class A All-Tournament Team in 2024 and is a two time-All Conference selection in the Lake Central Conference (2023, 2024) and the Big East Conference (2023 – 2nd, 2024 1st). She is committed to play basketball at Dakota Wesleyan University next winter.

“Lizzie brings a level of athleticism, strength and explosiveness to the game that is often unmatched,” Severtson said. “When the ball was in her hands in the mid post, she required a lot of attention.”

Lily Klein, Flandreau – Senior, Guard
Klein averaged 15.3 points, 3.2 assists and six rebounds per game while shooting 52.6 percent from the floor this season and averaged a double-double in the State Tournament averaging 19.7 points and 11 rebounds per game and making the Class A All-Touranment Team.

Klein was a Second Team Class A All-State selection this season and is a two-time All-Conference selection in the Big East and Lake Central Conferences. She finishes her career third all-time in Flandreau history with 302 assists and is committed to play basketball at Northern State University next winter.

“Lily plays with a motor that never quits,” Severtson said. “As he coach, I’ve never once questioned her energy and effort level – regardless of the day or the score. Throughout the years, coaches would make comments to me about how much fun it must be to get to coach a player like Lily and I have to say it has been a lot of fun over the last five years.”

Brynlee Landis, Colman-Egan – Sophomore, Guard
Landis made the All-Register Team for the second straight year after averaging 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals per game this season. She was also a first-team Dakota Valley All-Conference Selection.

A Lake Central Conference and Big East First Team All-Conference Selection, Bloker led the Cossacks to a 16-6 record and the Region 2A semifinals.
