Rolland C. Wilber, resident of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2022, following the steady decline of his health. He was born April 4, 1945, in Brookings, SD.
After attending Brookings schools, Chuck joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17, proudly serving his country in the Vietnam War. Over his military career he was highly decorated, earning a Combat Action Ribbon, a Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and a Meritorious Mast Acknowledgement. He served as an infantry Unit Leader, Ammunition Technician and Drill Instructor until his retirement in 1983, and achieved the rank of Gunnery Sgt.
He is survived by his sons Jeff Wilber and Chad Wilber of Salt Lake City, UT, his brother Arthur (Sandra) Wilber of Brookings, SD, and his sister Mary (Chuck) Cecil of Brookings, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Boyle-Wilber, his father, Leon A. Wilber, his mother, Rebecca Adamson, his stepfather, Glenn Adamson and his sister Catherine Madson.
Chuck was an avid lover of woodworking and always had some project in the works. He prized his time spent camping and fishing all over the intermountain West. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and was a strong supporter of his fellow veterans.
Following the passing of his wife Mary, he shared the remainder of his days with his grandson Kenneth Brecke and Kenneth’s wife Becca Brecke, his great-grandchildren Kailey and Boston, his dog Buddy and his extended family and friends.
Premier Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements for the graveside service and interment at Midvale Cemetery at Midvale, UT, on May 20, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Vietnam Veterans of America. Semper Fidelis.
