Brookings Public Library to host first annual pop culture convention

BROOKINGS — On May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Brookings Public Library will host its first Fandom Fest, an all-ages mini pop culture convention. This event will feature various programs, photo ops, a cosplay contest and door prizes. Costumes are encouraged.

No registration is required, and visitors can come and go to any or all of the events. Please see the library’s website calendar or Facebook event for further information on the schedule listed below.

  • 10 a.m.: “Comics Are For Everyone” with Shane Gerlach
  • 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.: Comic Creation Workshop with Hector Curriel (for ages 11 and up)
  • 1 to 3 p.m.: Family Star Wars Party with a visit from the 501st Legion
  • 1:15 p.m.: Fandom Fest Trivia
  • 3:15 p.m.: Cosplay Contest — there will be categories for participants “14 and under” and “15 and up”
