Jason W. Werpy, 53, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31,  at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. Visitation will be held the night prior from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings.
Jason Wallace Werpy was born on June 12, 1970. in Fargo, ND, to Bonnie (Radel) Werpy-Rye and the late Dr. Mark Werpy.  Jason grew up in Canby and Morris, MN, moving to Pierre, SD, as a sophomore in high school.  Jason graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, SD, in 1988.  He continued his education by earning Bachelor’s degrees in both computer science and electrical engineering from South Dakota State University in 1993. Jason later earned a masters in computer science from SDSU as well.
On June 20, 1992, in Pierre, SD, Jason married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Anne Karen Storsteen.  Together, they built a life with their three children, Bret, Kristen, and Kelsey in Brookings.
Following college, Jason began his career as a project leader for ICONtrol in Watertown.  In 1996, Jason changed paths, working for Daktronics as a software manager and then for the SDSU Foundation as a System Support Manager.  In 1998, Jason joined 3M as an IT Infrastructure Administrator.  Then, in 2006, Jason began working for SAIC as a Systems Engineer at EROS.  Since 2006, he has continued working for several EROS contractors as an Enterprise Architect. In 2018, Jason began working as a KBR Enterprise Architect where he was the NGAP Solutions Architect for the NASA Earth Data Cloud program.  Working on this NASA contract was a dream come true for Jason.  Additionally, Jason has been a part time adjunct professor of Computer Science at SDSU since 2010.
Above all else, Jason fiercely and passionately loved his wife and kids.  Jason was a loving, loyal, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and son.  He lived his life sharing his love for God through his actions with everyone he encountered.  
Over the years, Jason volunteered as a soccer, T-ball, football and robotics coach, and in any capacity needed for his kids’ activities.  At the church, Jason could be found teaching kids, working the sound board, and helping with anything needed.  Jason was the first to jump in and volunteer whether it was to drive across the country, encouraging his kids’ passions or to help to move his niece across campus, up three flights of stairs.
Jason loved spending time with his family, playing games, encouraging his kids’ dreams, and sharing his passion for all things computer and ‘techy’.  He was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings.
 He was a life-long, dedicated Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, never losing the Faith.  Jason was also a huge Star Wars fan and could talk ‘Star Wars’ for hours.  Jason loved to fidget, with anything.  It was a rare sight, if Jason didn’t have something in his hands.
Jason is survived by his wife, Anne, of Brookings, his kids: Bret (Andie) of Brookings, Kristen (Isaac Harris, significant other) of Sioux Falls, Kelsey of Brookings; his mom, Bonnie (Radel) Werpy-Rye; his brothers, Matt (Megan) Werpy of Rapid City and Aaron (Jena) Werpy of Brookings; as well as his niece and nephews; In-laws, John and Karen Storsteen of Webster, John Storsteen of McCool Junction, NE, Jill(Nathan) Weber of Mitchell, Mary (Conrad) Dieken of Mankato, MN, and niece and nephews.
Jason was preceded in death by his dad, Dr. Mark Werpy, his grandparents, and his niece Taryn Weber.
