Diane Carol Fodness, 61, of Brookings, SD passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at the United Living Community, Brookings, SD.  No services are planned at this time.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Diane Carol Fodness was born on Dec. 16, 1962, in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Ernest and Arlene (Fossum) Fodness.  She grew up in Canton, SD, then moved to Oldham in 1974. She graduated from Oldham High School in 1981.  She then attended South Dakota School of Mines and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
Following her graduation, Diane moved to California and began her 32-year career at Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station.  She held several positions there with the final being Ordnance Production Supervisor.  Diane retired in 2019, and moved to Brookings, SD, to be near family in 2022.
Diane loved to travel and had gone on several cruises.  She was an avid reader, loved movies, casinos, her dogs and spending time with her friends and family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Diane was very witty with a unique sense of humor.  She loved to debate any topic. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and professional organizations through work.
Diane is survived by her brother, Dale Fodness (JR Ray) of Dallas, TX; her sister, Danita (Terry) Duffy of Brookings, SD; nephews, Jason Duffy, Tyler (Annalise) Duffy; nieces, Brittany Davis, Ashley (Paxton) Heaton and great nieces and nephews, Tanner, Ajax, Ronyn, Allie, Atlas, Lakyn and Addison.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Fodness; mother, Arlene Cintella; grandparents, Edgar and Ella Fossum and Howard and Mildred Fodness.
