Brookings Swimming Club competes at state short course championships

The Brookings Swimming Club headed toward the end of their winter schedule as they competed in the 12 & Under State Short Course Championships from Feb. 23 through Feb. 25 and the State 13 & Over Championships in Watertown from Feb. 29 through March 3.

The Brookings Swimming Club headed toward the end of its winter schedule as it competed in the 12 & Under State Short Course Championships on Feb. 23-25 and the State 13 & Over Championships in Watertown from Feb. 29 through March 3.

12 & Under Championships

SIOUX FALLS — The BSC finished in sixth place for the event with the boys finishing in seventh place and the girls finishing in sixth place.

Jensen Webber and Addelyn Rausch were named state champions at the meet and Weber finished second and Emmet Morehouse finished third as high point winners at the meet.

Boys

Weber finished first in five different events in the age 9-10 group at the meet including the 50-meter freestyle where he set a new team record. Weber also finished first in the 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter fly, 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter fly while finishing second in the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter individual medleys.

Morehouse had a strong day in the age 9-10 group, finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-meter freestyle.

Morehouse also finished third in the 50-meter breaststroke, the 100-meter individual medley, the 100-meter breaststroke and the 100-meter freestyle while finishing fourth in the 50-meter backstroke and the 100-meter breaststroke.

Wyatt DeBlonk finished fifth in the 11-12 age group in the 100-meter breaststroke. DeBlonk also finished sixth in the 50-meter backstroke and finished seventh in the 50-meter breaststroke, 50-meter fly and 100-meter freestyle.

Otto Nelson finished 10th in the 50-meter breaststroke and 13th in the 100-meter breaststroke in the age 11-12 group.
Brenden Kuehl finished 16th in the age 9-10 group in the 500-meter freestyle and 50-meter fly.

Timothy Jin finished 11th in the 50-meter backstroke in the 11-12 age group.

Girls

Addelyn Rausch finished first in the 25-meter backstroke in the 8U division at the event and earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke. Addelyn Rausch finished fourth in the 50-meter freestyle, fifth in the 50-meter breaststroke and 25-meter freestyle and eighth in the 25-yard breaststroke and 100-meter freestyle.

Brooklyn Rausch competed in the 8U division and finished ninth in the 200-meter individual medley. She also finished 11th in the 100-meter breaststroke, 12th in the 50-meter breaststroke and 50-meter fly, 13th in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-meter individual medley and 14th in the 100-meter freestyle.

Emerson Weber competed in the 8U division and finished 13th in the 25-meter backstroke and 14th in the 25-meter freestyle.
Carmen Kurtenbauch competed in the 8U division and finished 16th in the 25-meter freestyle and the 50-meter freestyle.

Quinn Humphrey competed in the age 9-10 division and finished fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke. Humphrey finished seventh in the 100-meter breaststroke, 9th in the 50-meter freestyle, 11th in the 100-meter individual medley and 50-meter backstroke, 14th in the 100-yard backstroke and 15th in the 100-meter freestyle.

Ameilia Meland competed in the age 9-10 division and finished sixth in the 200-meter freestyle. Meland also finished ninth in the 50-meter backstroke, 10th in the 100-meter breaststroke, 11th in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-yard breaststroke, 12th in the 100-yard backstroke and 14th in the 100-meter individual medley.

Emma Mitchell competed in the age 11-12 division and finished 11th in the 100-meter breaststroke and 100-meter freestyle. Mitchell also finished 12th in the 50-meter breaststroke and 16th in the 50-yard freestyle.

Kjersten Johnson competed in the age 11-12 division and finished second in the 50-meter breaststroke, fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke and 15th in the 50-meter backstroke.

Jemma Dahlgren finished 7th in the 50-meter backstroke in the age 11-12 division and Jane Meland finished 15th in the 50-meter freestyle in the 8U division.

Relays

The boys age 9-10 200-meter medley relay team of Kuehl, Nelson, Weber and Moorehouse finished in third place.

The girls’ age 9-10 200-meter medley relay team of Ameilia Meland, Quinn Humphrey, Brooklyn Rausch and Harper Drawdy and the girls’ age 9-10 200-meter freestyle relay team of Ameilia Meland, Brooklyn Rausch, Harper Drawdy and Quinn Humphrey finished in fourth place.

The mixed 8U 100-meter freestyle relay team of Emerson Weber, Carmen Kurtenbach, Evan Moorehouse and Addelyn Rausch finished fifth.

The mixed age 9-12 200-meter medley relay team of Timothy Jin, Kjersten Johnson, Wyatt deBlonk and Emma Mitchell and the mixed 8U team of Jane Meland, Carmen Kurtenbach, Addelyn Rausch and Emerson Weber finished in seventh place.

The boys age 9-10 200 meter freestyle relay team of Emmet Moorehouse, Brenden Kuehl, Wesley Hanson-McComb and Jensen Weber also finished in the top 8.

13 & Over Championships

WATERTOWN — The BSC finished in fifth place overall at the event as Kyra Bowne won the state championship in the 50-meter freestyle and Ava Humphrey won the state title in the 100-meter breaststroke. Kalla Foerster also placed fifth in high points.

Girls

Bowne competed in the age 13-14 division and finished in first place with a team record in the 50-meter freestyle. Bowne also finished fourth in the 100-meter freestyle, sixth in the 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter individual medley, sixth in the 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter individual medley, 12th in the 100-meter breaststroke and 13th in the 100-meter fly.

Humphrey competed in the age 17 and over division and set a team record while finishing first place in the 100-meter breaststroke. Humphrey finished second in the 400-meter individual medley and the 200-meter breaststroke, sixth in the 200-meter individual medley, 7th in the 100-meter individual medley and eighth in the 100-meter freestyle.

Kalla Foerster competed in the age 13-14 division and finished second in the 100-meter fly, the 100-meter backstroke and the 200-meter backstroke. Foerster also finished third in the 100-meter breaststroke, 100-meter individual medley and 200-meter individual medley.

McKinley Schwab competed in the age 13-14 division and finished third in the 200-meter backstroke. Schwab also finished fourth in the 200-meter fly, fifth in the 100-meter fly and 100-meter backstroke and seventh in the 200-meter freestyle and 50-meter freestyle.

Kendall Schmit competed in the age 13-14 division and finished third in the 50-meter freestyle. Schmit finished fourth in the 400-meter individual medley, fifth in the 100-meter freestyle, seventh in the 200-meter individual medley and the 200-meter backstroke and ninth in the 200-meter freestyle.

Ava Brenner finished second in the 1650-meter and 100-meter freestyle events and fourth in the 500-meter freestyle. Brenner also finished fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke and seventh in the 100-meter freestyle.

Sophia Gonzalez competed in the age 13-14 division and finished fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke, fifth in the 200-meter freestyle and sixth in the 1650-meter freestyle.

Kaylie Kuehl competed in the age 13-14 division and finished eighth in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke events and 15th in the 1000-meter freestyle.

Scarlet Januszewski finished 16th in the 100-meter fly in the age 13-14 division, Marlee Skinner finished 12th in the 200-meter breaststroke in the age 15-16 division and Olivia Hove finished 13th in the 200-meter backstroke.

Boys

Ernest Ting competed in the age 15-16 division. Ting finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke, third in the 100-meter breaststroke, fourth in the 100-meter fly and 100-meter individual medley, sixth in the 50-meter freestyle and eighth in the 100-meter freestyle.

Trevin Lounsbury competed in the age 15-16 division. Lounsbury finished third in the 400-meter individual medley, 500-meter freestyle and 200-meter fly, fourth in the 200-meter individual medley, sixth in the 200-meter freestyle and eighth in the 100-meter individual medley.

Aedan Lansang competed in the 17 & older division and finished fifth in the 200-meter breaststroke, seventh in the 100-meter breaststroke, ninth in the 50-meter freestyle and 11th in the 100-meter freestyle.

Jorgen Johnson competed in the age 13-14 division. Johnson finished seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke, ninth in the 100-meter individual medley, 11th in the 200-meter individual medley, 13th in the 400-meter individual medley, 13th in the 100-meter freestyle and 14th in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Noah Humphrey finished in 10th place in the 50-meter freestyle, 12th in the 100-meter freestyle, 13th in the 200-meter freestyle, 13th in the 100-meter breaststroke, 14th in the 200-meter breaststroke and 14th in the 100-meter individual medley.

Jonah Hallan competed in the age 15-16 group and finished 11th in the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events while finishing 12th in the 500-meter freestyle.

Ben Caugherty competed in the age 15-16 division and finished ninth in the 200-meter backstroke and 11th in the 200-meter individual medley.

Corbyn Penner competed in the age 15-16 division and finished 12th in the 100-meter breaststroke and 15th in the 200-meter freestyle.

Relays

The girls’ age 13-14 800-meter freestyle relay team of Sofia Gonzalez, Kendall Schmit, McKinley Schwab and Kalla Foerster finished in second place while the team of Kyra Bowne, Kaylie Kuehl, Kendra Pikul and Scarlett Januszewski finished in seventh place.

The girls age 13-14 200-meter freestyle relay team of Kalla Foerster, Kendall Schmit, McKinley Schwab and Kyra Bowne finished in second place. The team of Sofia Gonzalez Scarlett Januszewski, Kendra Pikul and Kaylie Kuehl finished in seventh place.

The girls age 13-14 400 meter relay team of McKinley Schwab, Sofia Gonzalez, Kalla Foerster and Kyra Bowne finished in second place. The team of Kendall Schmit, Kaylie Kuehl, Scarlett Januszewski and Kendra Pikul finished in sixth place.

The girls age 13-14 400-meter freestyle relay team of Kyra Bown, McKinley Schwab, Kendall Schmit and Kalla Foerster finished in second place.

The boys age 13-14 400 meter freestyler relay team of Jorgen Johnson, John Sullivan, William Jin and Noah Humphrey finished in fifth place.

The boys age 13-14 200-meter freestyle relay team of Jorgen Johnson, William Jin, John Sullivan and Noah Humphrey finished in seventh place.

The boys age 15-19 200 meter freestyle relay team of Trevin Lounsbury, Corbyn Penner, Aedan Lansang and Ernest Ting finished in seventh place.

The girls age 15-19 800 meter freestyle relay team of Ava Brenner Olivia Hove, Marlee Skinner and Ava Humphrey finished in eighth place.
