HURON — The Brookings Bobcats’ relay teams had a strong afternoon as the Brookings track & field team competed at the Huron Invitational on Friday.
The Bobcats were fueled by a pair of second-place finishes on the boys side as Gavin Anderson, Owen Hoppe, Cole Skyberg and Griffen Bartels finished second in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:37.06.
The team of Ernest Ting, Skyberg, Jon Kahler and Nathan Smith also earned a second-place finish with a time of 3:34.26 in the 4x400 meter relay and Jack Griggs, Blake Kannegieter, Ashton Baker and Weston Baker earned a third-place finish in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay.
The girls team had a pair of top-five finishes in relay events as Grace Vostad, Ava Petterson, Claire Bisgard and Nevaeh Strohfus finished with a time of 1:59.33 in the 4x200 meter relay and the team of Strohfus, Petterson, Shae Lefers and Josie Nold finished with a time of 5:09.20 in the 1600 meter sprint relay.
In the individual events, the Bobcats saw plenty of success in the 400-meter dash with Elie Wongondombi finishing third with a time of 53.25 seconds, Nathan Smith finishing fourth with a time of 53.50 seconds and Ernest Ting finishing fifth with a time of 53.69 seconds.
Jordan Mofle finished second in the long jump at 20-00.75 while Ashton Baker finished fifth at 18-10.75.
Shane Harming finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.48 and Alex Wainman finished fifth in the high jump with a time of 5-06.00.
Logan Smidt finished first place in the girls javelin at 109-03 while Kennedy Ronning finished fifth in the pole vault at 9-00.00.
The team featured 10 teams including the Bobcats, Aberdeen Central, Huron, Northwestern, Pierre, Redfield, Milbank, Miller, Mitchell and Watertown. No team scores were kept at the meet.
