SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings girls bowling team completed a perfect season on Feb. 23 as the Bobcats won the state tournament at Eastway Bowl in Sioux Falls.

The Bobcats went 13-0 and have only lost one match over the past three seasons.

The girls had to go through qualification to get seeded and they bowled three games. Brookings rolled a 2,644 total and were the second seed heading into the double elimination tournament.

Each round would be settled by best two out of three games and Brookings did lose any games en route to the championship. The Bobcats took on Brandon in the first round and won 200-199 and 162-136. They then played Yankton in the second round and won 210-155 and 243-189.

In the third round Brookings went up against Harrisburg and won 193-149 and 197-192. In the championship match the Bobcats faced Yankton again and won 181-162 and 167-145.

Alexis Hieb had the highest score for the Bobcats in the tournament as she rolled a 267. Brooklyn Hieb was close to her as she rolled a 263. The highest series belonged to Brooklyn Hieb and rolled a 686. Kacee Rhody rolled a 658 in one series and Peyton McBride rolled a 646. Brooklyn Hieb also had the highest average with a 200.97 and Kacee Rhody had a 188.2.

This was the second state title for the Bobcat girls in the past three seasons. They won the State Tournament in 2022 and came in third last season.

Head coach Kasee Hieb said it was nice to see the Bobcats accomplish a goal that they had been working towards all season long.

“The girls varsity team won the state championship in 2022 and received third in 2023, so it was very nice to take the championship back again this year. They have had this goal since the end of last year and they worked hard to make it happen,” Hieb said.

Brooklyn Hieb was the lone senior for the Bobcats. Kasee Hieb said having only one senior means the Bobcats should be in contention to go back-to-back next year.

“Our team will certainly miss our one senior, Brooklyn Hieb, but the depth that this team has should keep us at the top for several years to come,” Kasee Hieb said.
