Big second inning leads Tri-Valley over Flandreau

Mustangs scored nine times to defeat Fliers on Thursday afternoon

CROOKS — The Tri-Valley Mustangs scored nine times in the second inning to pick up a 17-2 win over the Flandreau Fliers on Thursday afternoon.

The Fliers took an early lead when two runs scored on a groundout by Lizzie Pavlis in the first inning but the Mustangs tied the game on a RBI single by Syenna Bird and an RBI double by Elizabeth Davey.

Tri-Valley took when two runs scored on an error in the bottom of the second and the Mustangs broke the game open with nine runs in the second and six runs in the third to earn the win.

Veronica Shortman had a single and drew a walk for the Fliers while Pavlis was credited with an RBI. Sadie Iott drew a walk and scored a run while Jacey Sundermeyer drew a walk.

Olivia Peters allowed 15 runs (four earned) on eight hits, six walks and three strikeouts while Shortman allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk in 0.1 innings.

The Fliers fell to 1-3 with the loss and will host Chester Area on Friday afternoon.
