AURORA – Three pitchers combined on a pair of shutouts and the Cubs offense was explosive as Brookings advanced to the state tournament with a pair of victories in the North District Tournament on Saturday at Langland Field.

'Chutes qualify for State Tournament

MITCHELL – The Brookings 'Chutes, Brookings’ junior legion team, won their regional tournament over the weekend and qualified for the State Tournament. They beat Mitchell in the first game and beat Renner in the second game. They then beat Mitchell in championship.

BROOKINGS – It has been quite the season for the Brookings amateur baseball team. The Cubs finished the regular season 17-2 and this weekend they are hoping to qualify for the State Tournament in the North District Tournament in Aurora.

Start of Summit League fall sports delayed to Sept. 23

SIOUX FALLS – The Summit League’s Presidents Council agreed to delay the start of fall sports for member institutions until Sept. 23 based upon the recommendation from the League’s Joint Council due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mitchell tops Bandits in regional

MITCHELL – Eighth-seeded Mitchell rallied past No. 9 Brookings 8-7 in Game 1 and then held on for a 7-6 victory in Game 2 to win a best-of-three South Dakota Class A Independent 19U Baseball Tournament regional series Tuesday at Cadwell Park.

BROOKINGS – Sioux Falls Roosevelt totaled 252 points to win the Grand Champion cheer while Dakota Valley put up 274 points to take the top spot as the Dance Grand Champion at Saturday’s Brookings Invitational at the Swiftel Center.

BROOKINGS – Ian Strum and Jesse Munsterman hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth and Bryce Ahrendt pitched a complete game as the Sioux Falls Brewers beat the Cubs 4-3 in a Sioux Empire League amateur baseball game Sunday evening at Bob Shelden Field.
