Women Without Limits looking for members, to meet March 1

BROOKINGS – Women Without Limits Brookings will have its inaugural meeting March 1 and is looking for members, according to Nicole Biever.

The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Benjamin Franklin Event Center. If anyone is not comfortable meeting in person, a video will be posted at that time on the group’s Facebook page.

“We’re modeling our group after a group in Yankton called ‘100 Women of Yankton.’ Our plan is to have our membership sign up to commit themselves to twice a year writing a check for $100, so it would be a total of $200 commitment,” Biever said.

“Being a member like that gives them the opportunity to nominate a non-profit in Brookings County. It can be any 501(c)(3) in Brookings County that they feel a passion for,” she said.

If a woman wants to nominate a group that is not a 501(c)(3), the name will be given to the steering committee, which will hear special cases, Biever said.

The names of all the nominated nonprofits will be put into a hat and five will be drawn, Biever said. Representatives from those five organizations will be invited to attend the twice-a-year meetings and give a presentation to the group, which will then vote on the five. The organization that receives the most votes will receive all of the $100 checks.

“Our group will never have any money; that money won’t come to the group, instead we’ll be writing those directly to those non-profits,” Biever said.

Women Without Limits Brookings plans to give out the first award to an organization on April 15, Biever said.

The organization can be reached by its Facebook page or by calling Biever at 605-695-7928. A form is available online to sign up, as well as nomination forms.
