ABERDEEN – The Central Division-leading Aberdeen Wings (10-6-2-0, 22 points) completed a weekend sweep of the Brookings Blizzard with a 3-2 victory during NAHL action Saturday night at Odde Ice Center.
Colton Fletcher scored the game-winning goal on assists from Nic Sicoly and Nathan Burke with 14:36 remaining.
Aberdeen’s Joe Strada opened the scoring midway through the first period. Zach Noble and Filip Dusek assisted.
Brookings’ Carson Kosobud lit the lamp on a power play early in the second as Jimmy Elser and Vince Marino assisted. The Wings moved ahead 2-1 on Adam Pitters’ power-play tally – assisted by Fletcher and Sicoly – soon thereafter. The Blizzard again pulled even with 4:21 left in the second as Chase Brand scored on assists from Cameron Teamor and Doug Larson.
Matt Vernon made 25 saves to earn the win in goal, while Brookings’ Benjamin Beck stopped 32 shots.
The teams combined for 61 penalty minutes on 16 infractions.
The second-place Brookings Blizzard (9-8-2-0, 20 points) play host to the Janesville Jets on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
