WATERTOWN – Errors plagued the Bombers Gray in a doubleheader loss to the Watertown White Sox on Wednesday.

Brookings gave up just two earned runs in a 9-4 loss in an opener that featured five miscues before the White Sox pounded out nine hits to go along with nine walks in a 13-6 win in the nightcap.

Gray plays host to Brandon Valley on Saturday in a noon doubleheader at Mickelson Field.

The Bombers took the early lead when Gavin Fixsen led off with a walk and stole second and third. Brayton Mack drew a one-out walk and advanced to second as Fixsen scored on a wild pitch.

Logan Stotz walked and then, with two outs, both runners stole a base before Mack scored on a wild pitch for the two-run lead.

The White Sox used two walks; two stolen bases and a Gray error to score two runs in the bottom of the frame to even the score at 2-2 after one.

Brookings tallied a single run in the second after Dillen Scheeley walked; moved to second on wild pitch; was forced to third after walks to Fixsen and Braden Clifford; and then scored when Mack took one for the team.

But Watertown batted around in the bottom of the third to score seven runs as the White Sox took advantage of one walk and three Gray errors to go along with three base hits for a 9-3 advantage.

Stotz led off the seventh with a triple and scored on Magnus Nelson’s single for the final margin.

Mack suffered the loss on the mound after giving up nine runs – two earned – on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

Clifford struck out two and walked one in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Just like Game 1, the Bombers put up a pair of runs in the first inning when Clifford walked, stole second and scored on Mack’s double. Mack moved to third on Nelson’s infield single and then scored on Stotz’ sacrifice fly.

But the White Sox sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame to score 10 runs and take control.

Gray sandwiched single runs around two in the third, but it wasn’t enough as Watertown scored twice in the second and once in the third.

In the second, Quinn Miller was hit by a pitch; moved to second on Isaiah Dandurand’s groundout; advanced to third on Scheeley’s groundout; and then scored on a wild pitch.

Mack hit a one-out single in the third; stole second and then scored on Nelson’s base hit.

Nelson moved to second when Stotz drew a walk; advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a wild pitch.

Clifford walked with two outs in the fourth; stole second; and then scored on Mack’s second double of the game.

Miller suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs on three hits and six walks in 1/3 of an inning. Dandurand gave up five runs – four earned – on six hits and three walks in 2 2/3 frames of relief.
