HURON — The 20th Annual Wheel Jam is June 1-4 on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. It is an action-packed weekend full of classic cars, chromed motorcycles, lit-up trucks, stock car racing, live entertainment, and the South Dakota barbecue championships.

Wheel Jam, barbecue contest underway in Huron

HURON — The 20th Annual Wheel Jam is June 1-4 on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. It is an action-packed weekend full of classic cars, chromed motorcycles, lit-up trucks, stock car racing, live entertainment, and the South Dakota barbcue championships.

Wheel Jam events include the Wheel Jam Truck Show, Backstreet Cruisers Car Show, Xtreme GraphiX Bike show, Make it Mine Show ‘n Shine and Pick Up Party, poker run, biker games and stunt show, parade, audio sound competition, Wheel Jam Truck Show Rock n’ Lights, and dynamic engine brake competition.

Wheel Jam also features two nights of stock car racing, On Saturday June 3, the Challenge Cup XXI is presented by Prostrollo GM.

For music lovers, there will be great live music opportunities. On Friday June 2, Paul Marhoefer and Tony Justice will perform at the Wheel Jam Truck Show and are sponsored by S&B Transportation, LLC and Marone Transport, LLC. In addition, Big Jim Jam Fest featuring BOOZ N TUNA on Friday June 2, and Lizzy Hofer Band on Saturday June 3 will be held at the Nordby Exhibit Hall.

The original South Dakota barbecue championships puts barbecue on center stage on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3. The original South Dakota barbecue Championships is a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event and features two sanctioned contests: the masters four meat contest and the standalone rib contest. It also includes the Backyard BBQ People’s Choice contest and the F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge.

The public is invited to ‘taste the Que’ on Saturday June 3, at 2 p.m. for the BBQ people’s choice tasting. It is only $10 for adults and $5 for youth under 10 years of age to taste up to four meat entries from 15 different teams.

Barbecue isn’t the only star of the championships. The F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge is Friday, June 2. The people’s choice tasting starts at 5:30 p.m. and is y $5 per person.
