Warren W. Wieger, 72, of Brookings, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at the Brookings hospital. 

Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church, in Brookings. Visitation was Sunday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.

 Warren Wayne Wieger was born in Webster on Oct. 5, 1944, the son of Melvin and Rozella (Stee) Wieger.  He grew up and attended country school in Lilly and completed his high school education in Brookings, graduating from Brookings High School in 1962.  He attended Wahpeton Trade School and received an associate’s degree in eºlectronics.

He moved to Louisiana where he worked for a seismograph crew for the oil companies until he was drafted in 1965.  He served one tour of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in August of 1967.  He returned to Brookings and began his career at South Dakota State University.  He ran the Educational Media Center for 30-plus years until he retired.

In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, making pens on a wood lathe, fishing, family genealogy and calling Bingo at the VFW.  

 He is survived by his brother, Steve (Sandy) Wieger of Brookings; niece, Heidi (Jessie Schmidt) Wieger of Yankton and nephew, Cory (Jeannie) Wieger of Gayville.
