BROOKINGS – A teenager was attacked and injured by a group of people Monday, according to the Brookings Police.

The assault was reported about 5:45 p.m. Monday and occurred in the 1800 block of 17th Avenue South, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.

The victim was a 15-year-old boy from Brookings, Powers said.

“It was found that the victim on scene was assaulted by a group of juvenile males that had fled the scene prior to our arrival. The assault, according to the information we received, this was unprovoked and the victim was kicked and punched by the suspects,” Powers said.

“He did require medical attention and was transported to the hospital by a family member,” he said.

“The suspects have been identified but this remains under investigation,” Powers said.
