BROOKINGS – A teen was injured and a Bruce man is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run accident Sunday, according to Brookings Police.

Noah Morgan, 18, of Bruce, is facing charges of felony hit-and-run injury accident from the Brookings Police, and charges of possession of marijuana 2 ounces or less, possession of drug paraphernalia, ingesting, and DUI from the University Police Department, according to Lt. Marci Gebers of the Brookings Police. Morgan was taken to the Brookings County Detention Center.

The accident was reported at 3:36 p.m. Sunday, Gebers said.

“Officers were dispatched to the Brookings Emergency Department for a juvenile who had been run over by a vehicle (which) occurred in the 2100 block of 22nd Avenue South,” Gebers said.

The juvenile is 16 and a Brookings resident, she added.

“During the investigation, officers learned the juvenile had been standing next to the vehicle with their hands on the vehicle speaking with the driver, (which was Morgan),” Gebers said.

“There was a disagreement and Noah ended up taking off while the juvenile was still holding onto the window, which caused the juvenile to fall to the ground,” Gebers said. “The juvenile’s foot and ankle were run over by the vehicle Noah was operating. Noah never made any attempt to stop and check on the welfare of the juvenile and left the area.

“The juvenile was taken to the Emergency Department to receive treatment and sustained minor injuries,” Gebers said.

“Noah was … stopped and later arrested for an unrelated incident by the University Police Department,” Gebers said. “He would have been stopped by the (UPD) just shy of an hour after (BPD) officers were dispatched up to the Emergency Department for our felony hit-and run investigation.

“He was then also charged for the offense that we were investigating,” Gebers said.
