BROOKINGS – Dmitry Suspitsyn has been chosen as South Dakota State University’s director of institutional research following a national search. His hiring is pending approval by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Suspitsyn comes to State after working as the director for research and policy analysis with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.

“Dr. Suspitsyn has vast experience in academic and enrollment planning, research and assessment,” said Dennis Hedge, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We will draw on that experience to help us lead South Dakota State University as we address those issues in our new strategic plan, Imagine 2023.”

As the director of institutional research, Suspitsyn will be responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative research for identifying, analyzing and presenting institutional data trends. The data will be used to support the university’s efforts in strategic planning, enrollment management, institutional effectiveness, campus climate, alumni success and student satisfaction. The position also serves as a resource to administration, faculty and staff requiring research assistance for projects, programs, grants and institutional reports.

Suspitsyn has served in his current role since 2014. During that time, he conducted analysis on national and state public policy initiatives and regulations and wrote policy briefs, reports and papers.

Before starting in Kentucky, Suspitsyn was the assistant director of institutional research at California State University-Los Angeles and was the director of institutional research at Chancellor University and the Jack Welch Management Institute.

He earned his master’s degree from the University of Toledo and his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University.

Suspitsyn is scheduled to start at State Feb. 22.
