Students showcase talents at annual piano carnival

BROOKINGS  – Piano Carnival 2018 was held on the SDSU campus on Nov. 17.

This is one of several events sponsored by the Brookings Music Teachers Association to improve music skills individually and have fun doing it. Ninety–eight students participated in 10 different events, each one testing their abilities at their own individual levels. Different skills tested include rhythm, theory, ear training, sight reading, performance of one memorized solo, scales, chords, cadences, arpeggios and stage performance.

Students earning trophies were Serena An, Vanessa An, Luke Bielfeldt, Corah Cedar, Christopher Gross, Andrew Hahn, Lauren Hansen, Samantha Heermann, Jack Jeppesen, Eliett Johnson, Alex Kidangathazhe, Alicia Lam, Aedan Lansang, Sibi Manian, Ian Marzano, Josiah Miles, Kimberly Miles, Grace Romsa, Jens Sandro, Aubrey Schindler, Curtis Sneden, Cierra Strand, Kamryn Streich, Quinn Ulvestad, Liam Wagner, Mallory Wells, Shuman Yuan, and Kyle Zhu.

Participating teachers included Pamela Baker, Matthew Baker, Darla Biel, Diana Christiansen, Lois Darrington, Bethany Foote, Cynthia Jorgensen, Deb Kalsbeck, Tammy Knudtson, Xuan Kuang, Nancy Sandro, John Walker and Mary Walker.
