State University Theatre season opens Oct. 4

BROOKINGS – “RENT,” “Unnecessary Farce,” “True West” and “Seussical!” highlight the 2017-18 State University Theatre season.

The season opens with the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “RENT,” the inspiring story about addiction, poverty, AIDS and, most of all … love. “Unnecessary Farce” follows with its hilarious plot including two cops, three crooks and eight doors. One of the late Sam Shepard’s masterpieces, “True West” follows before the season closes with the hit children’s musical, “Seussical!”

This year’s dance performances include the annual Christmas celebration and the spring dance concert.

State University Theatre’s productions will run:

• “RENT” – Oct. 4-7, 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 8, 2 p.m.;

• “Unnecessary Farce” – Nov. 29-Dec. 2, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 3, 2 p.m.;

• A Christmas Celebration – Dec. 9, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 10, 2 p.m.;

• “True West” – Feb. 20-24, 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 25, 2 p.m.;

• Spring Dance Concert – March 17, 7:30 p.m.; March 18 at 2 p.m.; and

• "Seussical!" – April 18-21, 7:30 p.m.; April 22, 2 p.m.

All of the productions this season will be in Doner Auditorium. The Performing Arts Center at South Dakota State University box office will be open the week prior to and during the run of the production.

Tickets are now available at the Performing Arts Center box office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Doner Auditorium box office will open an hour before performances. Tickets will be available for purchase online at http://sdstate.tix.com.
