Brookings High School sophomore Serena An, center, competed at the Math Prize for Girls at MIT on Sept. 23.
Among 285 competitors, she placed sixth, earning a $1,000 award and a $250 merit scholarship to the Canada/USA MathCamp summer program.
She will be invited with the other top 35 performers to participate in the Advantage Testing Foundation Math Prize Olympiad scheduled for November.
