Sioux Falls Christian girls win at Hanson Classic

MITCHELL – Sioux Falls Christian defeated Sioux Valley 58-39 in the girls’ Hanson Classic on Monday night at the Corn Palace.

The Chargers (3-6) led 11-5 after a quarter, 28-20 at halftime and 43-30 through three.

Christian shot 46.5 percent from the field while limiting the Cossacks to 25 percent, including an 8-of-36 clip from 3-point range. It held a 43-20 advantage on the glass but committed 20 turnovers to Sioux Valley’s nine.

Kylah vanDonkersgoed posted a big double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds.

Lauren Tims added 16 points.

The Cossacks’ Reagan Johnson totaled 10 points, six boards and four steals.

Ellie Schmidt hit three of her seven attempts from downtown and tallied nine points.

Sioux Valley (2-5) is host to Chester Area tonight at 6:30 in the front end of a doubleheader.
