Shawn Charles Jorenby, beloved son, father, brother and uncle, passed from this world into the next on April 30, 2022, after a brief illness.
Shawn was born on March 15, 1961, in San Diego, Calif., to Burt and Garnet (Bjorklund) Jorenby and joined his sister, Tjodie. The family moved to Sunland, Calif., in 1962, where Shawn grew up. He attended Apperson Elementary School, Mt. Gleason Jr. High and graduated from Verdugo Hill High School. He enjoyed Little League Baseball and bike riding with friends.  He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Tujunga, Calif.
Shawn married Teresa Bryant on April 18, 1981. Their daughter Natasha, was born on March 14, 1985.
Shawn worked for Armored Transport for 25 years. In January 2010, he enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles.  He graduated in April 2011, and he enjoyed cooking school very much.
Shawn’s love for his family was steadfast and unconditional. He was patient, easygoing, quick to laugh and slow to anger. He did what he could with what he had, helping friends and neighbors when asked. To know him was to love him.
Shawn was infinitely supportive of his daughter throughout his life, and the two enjoyed a close bond. They loved to spend time together cooking new and old recipes, watching movies, walking the dogs and generally messing around.  Natasha will cherish the time they spent together for the rest of her life.
During the last 10 years, he liked to visit South Dakota and help his mom get things shaped up after winter. He enjoyed all the mowing and trimming and just being outside. They both looked forward to those visits.
Shawn is survived by his daughter, Natasha Jorenby Sherriff, Van Nuys, Calif., mother Garnet (Bjorklund) Jorenby, Arlington, S.D.; sister Tjodie Jorenby, Los Angeles, Calif.; niece Katelyn Lamoureux (Sierra) and great-nephew Jordon of Coventry, R.I.; two aunts, Lorie Jorenby, White, S.D., and Sheila Bjorklund, Brookings, S.D.; and his grand-dog, Doug.
There will be a memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Estelline, S.D., on Aug. 24, 2022, at 2:30 p.m.
Prior to the service, his family will bury him next to his father at the Arlington City Cemetery.
He will live in our hearts forever.
