S.F. Christian tops Dakota Valley for Class A crown

WATERTOWN – Top-seeded Sioux Falls Christian beat Dakota Valley 25-19, 25-18, 25-12 in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament championship match Saturday at Watertown Civic Arena.

It marked the Chargers’ fourth consecutive state title and sixth in seven years.

Abby Glanzer racked up 20 1/2 points – 19 kills, a service ace and a block assist.

Sydney Tims added five kills, four aces and 2 1/2 blocks.

Kelsi Heard guided the offense with 28 set assists and Kylah vanDonkersgoed paced the defense with 19 digs. Lavon Maddox came up with 12 digs.

For No. 6 Dakota Valley (17-6), Rachel Rosenquist had eight kills, 1 1/2 blocks and 12 digs.

Notes: The Chargers’ lone loss was a 25-23, 25-15, 25-21 setback to Class AA champ O’Gorman (undefeated) on Oct. 23. … SFC beat DV 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-20 on Sept. 24. … SFC is 10-4 in title matches, adding victories in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019. It was second in 1992, 1995, 2002 (fall) and 2003. … The Panthers dropped to 2-4 in championship matches. They won in 2013 and 2016 and lost in 2012, 2017 and 2019 – all the setbacks coming versus S.F. Christian.

The Pheasants (20-8) won 25-16, 25-17, 25-23.

Ryleigh Andersen had eight kills, three aces and a block assist. Shelby Lang chipped in with 11 kills and 16 digs. Cierra Mohr totaled 28 set assists, 10 digs and four aces. Breana Jensen had 16 digs.

For the Chargers (20-6), McKenna Prouty finished with six kills and five blocks (three solo). Ashtyn Abraham came up with 19 digs.

Fifth place

 No. 8 Madison 3, No. 3 Rapid City Christian 0

The Lady Bulldogs (18-5) cruised to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 ‘W’.

Abby Brooks totaled 22 kills, 1 1/2 blocks (one solo) and an ace. Sophia Vandenbosch added nine kills, five aces and 14 digs. Kylie Krusemark dished out 37 set assists, with Raena Rost notching 14 digs.

For the Comets (29-6), Olivia Kieffer had 15 kills, an ace and 13 digs.

Seventh place

 No. 4 Winner 3, No. 2 Hill City 2

The Lady Warriors (23-6) prevailed by the set scores of 20-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-12 and 15-10.

Ellie Brozik racked up 28 kills, an ace, a block and 24 digs. Mackenzie Levi had 42 set assists and Maggie LaCompte came up with 27 digs.

For the Rangers (26-5), Dale Schrier had 14 kills and 1 1/2 blocks (one solo).

Semifinals

The Chargers won 25-10, 25-13, 25-19.

Abby Glanzer had 14 kills, three aces, 1 1/2 blocks and 12 digs.

 Dakota Valley 3, Parker 0

The Panthers prevailed 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.

Sophia Atchison had 12 kills, a block and 14 digs.

Consolation semifinals

 Madison 3, Winner 1

The Lady Bulldogs posted a 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18 victory. Abby Brooks racked up 31 kills, two aces, a block and eight digs.

 Rapid City Christian 3, Hill City 2

The third-seeded Comets edged the second-seeded Rangers 25-21, 26-28, 21-25, 25-20, 15-12 in a matchup of West River squads. Olivia Kieffer had 23 kills, an ace and 14 digs.
