SIOUX FALLS – After finishing third at the 2019 Summit League Championship and a successful fall season, the South Dakota State women's golf team was tabbed to finish third in the Summit League preseason poll.
The women's team received 49 points, including one first-place vote, from the Summit League head coaches. A season ago, the Jackrabbits were picked second.
Denver was predicted to win the 2020 Summit League Championship for the seventh consecutive time with 64 total points. Oral Roberts was selected to finish second. North Dakota State sat fourth in the poll with 48 points, while the next five teams featured South Dakota (36 points), Purdue Fort Wayne (22), Omaha (19), North Dakota (18) and Western Illinois (15).
The Jackrabbits’ Teresa Toscano was one of 11 golfers chosen by the league coaches to watch this season.
The senior is the SDSU record holder with a 73.9 career stroke average.
She averaged 72.5 in 12 rounds to lead the Jacks during the fall season. Toscano has 23 career top-10 finishes (four of which came in the 2019 fall season), 15 career top-5 finishes and four collegiate victories.
She has been named to the Summit League Championship All-Tournament Team all three years and is a 2018 and 2019 First Team All-Summit League selection.
Toscano sits second in the Summit League standings headed into the second half of the season, while the Jackrabbits rank fourth as a team.
SDSU returns to action on Feb. 21-23 at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Collegiate in Greensboro, Ga.
The 2020 Summit League Championship is slated for April 26-28 in Newton, Kan.
