SDSU women win, men come in 2nd

OMAHA, Neb. – The South Dakota State women’s and men’s golf teams finished first and second, respectively, at the Stampede at The Creek.

 

WOMEN

The women’s team captured its third title of the season with scores of 314-309-306—929 (+65). South Dakota finished second with a three-round total of 944 (+80) and Northern Iowa finished third with 962 (+98).

Teresa Toscano won her fourth tournament this season and eighth of her career. She posted a third round score of 1-over 73 followed by a 79 (+7) in the final round. The senior posted a 54-hole score of 225 (+9), winning the event by eight strokes.

Hester Sicking finished seventh with scores of 80 (+8) and 74 (+2) in the second and third rounds, respectively. Mia Seeman and Cassidy Laidlaw tied for ninth with a three-round total of 240 (+24).

Lani Potter tied for 14th with 83-86-73—242 (+26) while Alex Kandolin followed closely behind, finishing 17th with 81’s in all three rounds to finish 27-over.

 

MEN

The men’s team improved to finish second with scores of 305-299-294—898 (+34). North Dakota State captured the title with 892 (+28), while SIU Edwardsville finished third with 901 (+37).

Jack Tanner and James Temple, as well as Sam Batta who competed as an individual, all finished tired for fourth with 222 (+6). Temple led the Jacks in the second round an even-par 72, while Tanner fired a 2-under 70 in the final round.

Will Frazier tied for 11th with a three-round total of 224 (+8). He shot even-par in the final round. Noah Boraas finished 25th with a total score of 231 (+15), including shooting a 4-over 76 in the second and third rounds. Liam Georgiadis tied for 26th with 232 (+16) and Matthew Schaefer tied for 31st with 233 (+17).

 

Up Next

The Stampede at The Creek marked the final regular season tournament for the women before the Summit League Championship April 24-26 in Newton, Kansas. The men will compete at the Hawkeye Invitational April 17-18, before their Summit League Championship May 1-3.
