Sanford Pentagon/SDBCA All-Star Games contested in SF

SIOUX FALLS – The Sanford Pentagon/South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Games were held Sunday on Heritage Court.

Boys

The Navy team used a balanced offensive attack to beat the White squad 79-77 in overtime.

Seth Friez put Navy ahead 77-75 with a bucket in the paint with 34 seconds to go. Brookings’ Josh Mohs made 1-of-2 free throws with 23 seconds to play.

White’s Mason Archambault hit a pair of foul shots with 10 seconds showing on the clock, cutting the deficit to 78-77.

Cooper Williams’ foul shot with 7 seconds remaining provided for the final margin. Archambault’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Navy shot 45.1 percent (32-of-72) from the field to overcome 16 turnovers. White finished at 27 percent (24-of-89) with just three turnovers.

Friesz had 17 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Mohs had 14 points, seven boards and a pair of assists. He finished 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long range.

Jesse Kreutzfeldt chipped in with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Matt Cartwright, who collected seven rebounds, and Robert Rosenquist both added nine points. Williams totaled eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Brookings’ Brennan Carlson had five points and seven boards.

Navy led 39-26 at halftime and the score was tied at 75-75 at the end of regulation.

For the White team, Archambault scored a game-high 18 points.

DeJay Fykstra added 12 points, Ethan Freidel 11 and Mason Leighton 10. Freidel pulled down seven rebounds and Fykstra six, while Leighton came up with five steals.

Bennett White contributed nine points and seven boards. Micah Hoellein notched seven points and 10 rebounds.

Sioux Valley’s Tayt Vincent totaled five points, two boards and two assists.

Girls

The White team built a 42-32 halftime lead and pulled away to beat the Navy squad 86-62.

Josie Clemens led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds in the win. Abby Johnson posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards. They combined to go 13-of-21 from the field, hitting three 3-pointers apiece.

South Dakota State commit Myah Selland, who is from Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, scored 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. She added eight rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

Haley Rithmiller contributed nine points and came up with six steals.

Brookings’ Baylee Tetzlaff, who tallied four boards, Tahia Mitzel and Jordan Kruse chipped in with six markers apiece. Mitzel and Karlee McKinney both dished out four assists.

The Navy team got 19 points, six rebounds and six blocks from Sebastian Akoi. Sydney Rosinsky added 13 points. Chloe Lamb notched five assists.
