BROOKINGS – Registration is now open for Brookings Health System’s popular Safe Sitter Class. Paramedic Wendy Long will teach a session on Monday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Conference Room A located inside Brookings Hospital.

“The Safe Sitter Class is a great resource for parents with adolescents looking to get into babysitting,” said Long. “By providing training in child care, safety, life and business skills, we give teens the confidence and abilities to safely watch younger children.”

The Safe Sitter Class is recommended for young teens, 11 to 16 years of age, who are interested in babysitting and working with children, infants through school age. The course teaches how to safely care for younger children and includes First Aid and CPR.

Participants should pack a sack lunch that does not require refrigeration for their noon meal. Parents are encouraged to attend a completion ceremony at the end of the day. Participants will also receive an informational packet for at-home parent education.

Cost is $60 and includes a babysitting handbook for students to keep. Class size is limited to six participants. To register, visit brookingshealth.org/SafeSitter.
