BROOKINGS – Emily Rystrom helped lead the Bobcats over Sioux Falls Washington, 2-1, in a nonconference girls’ soccer match Thursday night at Fishback.

The senior scored twice in the second half in her final regular-season home game for Brookings.

“Just an absolute fantastic effort by our girls for a comeback win,” said BHS coach Adam Juba. “The last home game for these seniors and Emily Rystrom just putting two goals in the back of the net, especially her second one on a breakaway – the goalie made the save but she wanted it so bad that she just followed her shot and even ran into the post but put the ball in the net.

“It was just an absolute great effort and it was nice to see what we talked about in practice yesterday, just reminding them how we play this formation and they really played the formation well today; really, really well. And they trusted each other and they played as a team and they played with that family mentality that we’ve had all season, and it was just really, really nice to see that all come together tonight.”

Rystrom tied it in the 58th minute and netted the game-winner in the 65th.

The Bobcats outshot the Warriors 16-4, including 8-3 on goal.

Goalkeeper Grace Mork stopped two shots to earn the victory, including a key save on a header following a corner kick in the closing seconds.

Rystrom fired six shots, five of which came on goal.

Washington’s Eden Hullinger had a goal in the 23rd minute to open the scoring.

Daisy BarreraMendoza made six saves for the Warriors (1-8).

Brookings (3-5) plays its final four games on the road, beginning with a matchup with O’Gorman on Saturday at 3 p.m. at McEneaney Field in Sioux Falls.
