Roeman leads Quarriers past Cossacks in Region 2B South Division championship

DELL RAPIDS – Josh Roemen threw a one-hitter with five strikeouts and a pair of walks as Dell Rapids defeated Sioux Valley 11-0 in six innings in the Region 2B High School Baseball Tournament South Division championship game Tuesday evening.

The Quarriers (16-4) beat Deuel/Hamlin/Castlewood 10-1 later in the day to advance to the Class B State High School Baseball Tournament, which is Monday at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Roemen also went 3-for-3 with a triple three runs scored in the win over the Cossacks.

Matt Gillogly doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored three times.

Austin Ellingson added two hits and two RBIs. Jay Holm went 1-for-1 with a double, three walks and a pair of RBIs. Seth Anderson also drove in two runs, while Nate McKee scored twice.

Brayden Havrevold picked up the lone hit for Sioux Valley, which finished the season with an 11-3 record.

Cole Gross took the loss after allowing seven runs – five earned – on eight hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapids scored four runs in the first inning. The hosts pushed the margin to 5-0 in the second, before adding two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth. The game ended via the 10-run rule with one out in the sixth.
