Region 3B and 4B girls’ basketball playoffs begin

Arlington, Estelline/Hendricks, Elkton-Lake Benton and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland girls’ basketball teams all advanced in the Class B Regional Playoffs Monday night. Flandreau and Hanson picked up wins in boys’ basketball. 

Girls

Region 3B

 Arlington 65, Iroquois/Doland 37

Arlington held Iroquois/Doland to 26.2% from the field. The Cardinals outscored the Lady Chiefs 17-4 in the first quarter. The Lady Chiefs were a lot more competitive in the second quarter, but the Cardinals took a 40-24 lead into halftime.

Arlington flexed its muscles in the third quarter as they outscored Iroquois/Doland 18-2. The Lady Chiefs were able to outscore the Cardinals 11-7, but it was too little too late.

The Cardinals were led by Hadley Carlson who had a huge night with 26 points and eight rebounds. Jolyssa Steffensen had 14 points and Harley Johnson had nine.

The Cardinals won the rebounding battle 46-35. The Lady Chiefs were led by Katie Dubro who had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Mass had nine points and eight rebounds.

Arlington will play at Deubrook Area tonight.

 Estelline/Hendricks 54, Wessington Springs 22

Wessington Springs shot 18.4% from the field and were 0-for-8 on threes which led to the loss.

Estelline/Hendricks got things going early and outscored WS 32-13 in the first half. The Redhawks kept things going in the third quarter as they outscored WS 22-9 in the second half.

The Redhawks were led by Kylie Beare who had 19 points and four assists. Sadie Johnson scored eight points and Kate Wegner had six. Kaylee Johnson scored seven points and grabbed seven boards.

Estelline/Hendricks plays at Castlewood tonight.

Region 4B

 Elkton-Lake Benton 49, Chester Area 39

The Lady Elks jumped out to a 8-3 lead after the first quarter and didn’t look back. Chester outscored ELB 23-17 in the second quarter to take a 26-25 lead into halftime.

ELB was reclaimed the lead in the third quarter and led 39-33 heading into the fourth. The Lady Elks were able to pull away in final quarter to get the victory.

Rachel Krog led ELB with 23 points. Tevan Erickson scored 10 points. 

The Flyers were led by Emmerson Eppardd who had 16 points and three assists. 

ELB plays at Hanson tonight. Oldham-Ramona/Rutland defeated Mitchell Christian 38-35 Monday night. The Raiders play at Ethan tonight.

Boys

 Flandreau 56, Sioux Falls Christian 55

Flandreau picked up a big win against a good Sioux Falls Christian team Monday night.

Tash Lunday led the Fliers with 22 points. Alex Anderson scored 11 points for Flandreau.

The Chargers were led by Xavier Van Beek who had 14 points. Tyler Prins had 13 points and Brooks Nelson had 12.

The Fliers finished the season with a 14-6 record. Sioux Falls Christian dropped to 14-5 and plays at Tri-Valley Friday.

 Hanson 55, Colman-Egan 21

Hanson used a huge first half to get the victory. The Beavers outscored the Hawks 28-7 in the first half. They kept It rolling in the second half as they outscored the Hawks 27-14.

Riley Ferrry led Hanson with 14 points. Isiah Price scored eight points.

The Hawks were led by Austin Gullickson who scored six points. Levi Baumberger had five points.

CE finshed the regular season with a 0-20 record. Hanson finished the season 15-5.
