Rangers take second in home tourney

BROOKINGS – Edina defeated the Rangers 6-3 in the championship game of the Jr. Gold A Dakota Premier Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Friday

 Brookings 8, Huron 0

The Rangers pulled away with a six-goal third period.

Owen Schneider and Logan Bortnem both lit the lamp twice, with Jamison Honkomp, Breck Hirrschoff, Jack Merritt and Max Kjelden adding goals.

Honkomp and Kjelden both dished out a pair of assists, as Bortnem, Schneider, Alec Rice, Ashton Witte, Zach Struck and Wes Koenig chipped in with one apiece.

Kaden Gutormson made 10 saves for the shutout between the pipes.

 Brookings 8, White Bear Lake 0

The Rangers opened pool play with another lopsided victory.

Witte and Bortnem both found the back of the net twice. Hirrschoff, Talon Richter and Kole Kalber also scored.

Richter and Hirrschoff both logged two assists. Rice, Merritt and Jacob Drew all added one.

Kade Brecher stopped 12 shots for the shutout in goal.

Saturday

 Brookings 7, Rosemount 0

Kjelden netted a hat trick.

Bortnem scored twice and Hirrschoff and Ike Johnson both once.

Johnson tallied two helpers and Kjelden, Bortnem, Witte, Honkomp and Richter each chipped in with one.

Brecher made six saves to post another shutout.

 Edina 5, Brookings 2

The Minnesota club scored two times in each of the first two periods to open up a 4-0 advantage.

Hirrschoff scored on an assist from Bortnem and Schneider lit the lamp on Kjelden’s assist in the third.

Brecher stopped 21 shots.

Sunday – Championship

 Edina 6, Brookings 3

Edina led 2-0 after a period and both teams scored three times in the second stanza.

Kjelden, Richter and Bortnem found the back of the net for Brookings.

Hirrschoff, Merritt, Kjelden and Witte logged assists.

Brecher made 24 saves.
