BROOKINGS – An application for a conditional use permit to establish a 9,500-head dairy south of Aurora was withdrawn and taken off the Brookings County Planning Commission’s Tuesday agenda.
The applicant for the concentrated animal feeding operation was Riverview LLP by Brady Janzen of Morris, Minn. The proposed site borders on 475th Avenue on the east and 218th Street on the south, about four miles south of Aurora in Trenton Township.
The applicant said while the site was a good fit for the project and met setback requirements, there wasn’t neighborhood support for it, County Development Deputy Director Richard Haugen said.
Registered voters residing within Trenton Township voted overwhelmingly against the application in an Aug. 30 nonbinding vote. The final tally was 96 percent opposed to the dairy, and 4 percent in favor.
