Pheasants Forever youth hunt

Posted

On Sunday, Oct. 6, recent graduates of South Dakota’s hunt safe classes  gathered at the Brookings Gun Club for  the annual Brookings County Pheasants Forever youth hunt. Parents and grandparents joined the 21 kids for trap shooting, a gun safety review and an introduction to hunting safely with a gun dog.

Following the safety lessons, the 21 were divided into groups and took buses, donated by Destinations Unknown, to three different fields where each group met up with their dog handlers and the gundogs.

All had a great safe hunt with plenty of birds to keep them on their toes. Following the hunt they went back to the gun club for a light meal and door prizes. After giving gifts to all, members of the PF group showed how to clean the birds so they could be prepared for dinner.

Brookings County PF officials thanked all who make this event possible: The Brookings Gun Club; Runnings; Destinations Unknown; Midwest Tri-State North American Versatile Hunting Dog Assoication (eight doghandlers); all of the sponsors who give the funds to put on this event and  the private landowners who allowed the group to hold this on their property.
