BRUCE – A Volga man has died following a head-on collision between two vehicles on June 14 northeast of Bruce, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Emil Misar, 85, died at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls on June 18, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said in the news release, after the sheriff’s office was notified by the Minnehaha County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred at the intersection of 468th Avenue and 199th Street, according to the release. The vehicles involved were a 2012 Ford F150 driven by Todd Goodfellow, 51, of Bruce, and a 2009 Yukon Denali driven by Melissa Flitter, 31, of Bruce.

The two vehicles were approaching each other at the top of a hill, and the pickup failed to move to the side when cresting the hill and hit the front of the SUV, Sebring reported. One vehicle was traveling 35 mph, and the other was traveling 55 mph prior to the collision.

Flitter had two passengers in her vehicle, Sebring reported. They were Misar and Megan White, 22, of Harrisburg.

Flitter and Misar were taken to a hospital for unknown injuries, while Goodfellow and White were assisted by family members.

The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, and charges are pending, Sebring said.
