BROOKINGS – A package was stolen while the resident watched last Friday, according to Brookings Police.

The theft was reported at 5:30 p.m. Friday and occurred in the 100 block of 12th Avenue South, Lt. Marci Gebers said.

“The reporting party saw a package stolen from outside of their residence,” Gebers said. “There was a package with several items in it.”

“Some of the contents were located nearby and were recovered, but there is still one item that is missing from inside a bubble-wrapped envelope, but the reporting party was not certain what was in that package,” Gebers said.

“We do have some video of the suspects, so we are working on identifying the suspects that were involved in this,” Gebers said.

She warned people to be cautious if they order items or are expecting packages. You can safeguard items by using a post office box for deliveries or having the packages delivered to your workplace during business hours “or somewhere where the package isn’t just going to be left outside where thieves have access to it,” Gebers said.
