BROOKINGS – Wayne Wolforth and Brad Konechne presented Dan Svobony, president of the Band Boosters, with a $6,600 check.
The band members and the Band Boosters earn the money by assisting the Optimist with the Avenue of Flags project.
The band has a new director this year – Isaac McMahon. Participating in band gives students opportunities for teamwork, leadership, to be part of something, friendships, competition, communication and community pride.
They have already participated in two clinics, four competitions and three Bobcat football game performances. They have done very well in competition including placing eighth overall in the 2021 festival of bands.
They also went on a trip to Minneapolis for youth in music at the U.S. Bank Stadium. They will be marching in the Hobo Day Parade on Oct. 23. Band Boosters’ fundraising goal is $46,000. Fees for each band member are about $200. Funds are raised through the Avenue of Flags, discount card sales and lemonade sales. The funds are used for food, support staff, supplies, music for shows, fees for competition and props.
